Cotone Product Story
A subtle interpretation of natural stone and available in five neutral tones, Timeless is an enduring and atmospheric range, exclusive to our Stone Collection. With four sizes and three finishes, Timeless has the charm for contemporary living and the strength for larger commercial spaces. Available in Natural, Polished and Structured (R11 slip rated) finishes, Timeless is ideally suited to both indoor and outdoor applications. The Structured finish in particular, with its precise ridges, is ideal for a wet room or pool complex and has helped Timeless become one of our most popular collections. Timeless is also accompanied by imposing decorative pieces, including the three-dimensional surfaces of ‘Muretto' and unique to this range, ‘3D Design’. Cotone is part of our Stone-effect Collection.

Shade Tone Variance
Understanding Shade Tone Variance

Shade, texture and tone can vary from piece to piece within a single tile production run. V1 shade tone variation has little or no change from piece to piece where a V4 might have a substantial variety of shade, texture and tone variation.
Variance Rating | Description |
---|---|
V1 | Uniform Appearance |
V2 | Slight Variation |
V3 | Moderate Variation |
V4 | Substantial Variation |
Pendulum Test Values (BS 7976-2)
Finish | Conditions | Result | Slip Potential |
---|---|---|---|
Natural | Dry | 47 | |
Natural | Wet | 22 |
Understanding Pendulum Data
The HSE Approved Pendulum Test accurately replicates the Dynamical Coefficient of Friction (COF) or 'Heel Slip' on floor surfaces and is designed to replicate a pedestrian heel strike, the point at which most slips occur.
The pendulum test readings obtained are referred to as either the Slip Resistance Value (SRV) or Pendulum Test Value (PTV). When the test is operated properly, the PTV should be interpreted as shown in the table below. This table relates to pedestrians walking in a straight line on a level surface. It can be used to accurately test the slip potential on dry or contaminated floors.
PTV | Slip Potential |
---|---|
0 - 24 | High |
25 - 35 | Moderate |
36 + | Low |
See British Standard BS 7976-2 for more information on conducting Floor Pendulum Testing on pedestrian surfaces. Pendulum Test Certificate available on request.
Ramp Test Values (DIN 51130)
Finish/Style | R Rating Value | Friction |
---|---|---|
Natural | R10 | Normal |
Structured | R11 | Good |
Understanding Ramp Test Data
DIN Standard Ramp Testing (DIN 51130) is an alternative to Pendulum Testing and generally categorised as an 'off-site' activity because of the size and complexity of the equipment required to carry out the test. The Slip Resistance Values (RSV) are factory gate values (based on supplied tiles) and categorised using the Ramp Test (DIN 51130) method which is commonly used by European factories. In this method, a lubricated inclined platform is adjusted to a gradually increasing gradient, and the angle is measured at which a person walking on it slips.
We have deliberately not included the ramp test angles on this page as this information can be confused with the angle that a floor may be safely set to, which is incorrect. The shod test results are quoted as an R Rating value from R9 to R13, which relates to the ramp angle.
R Rating Value | Friction |
---|---|
R9 | Minimal |
R10 | Normal |
R11 | Good |
R12 | Good |
R13 | Very high |
See the Health and Safety Executives website for more information regarding the Ramp Test procedure. Ramp Test Certificate available on request.
